Help Protect Supplemental Oxygen Access

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed a new rule that could make it even harder for people to get the supplemental oxygen they rely on every day. The proposed rule (CMS-1828-P) would restart the Competitive Bidding Program (CBP) for durable medical equipment and we’re worried that it will include supplemental oxygen.
Here’s the problem:
- Based on the language in the proposed rule, CMS is essentially denying that people face problems accessing liquid oxygen, which we all know is false.
- The proposed rule is written in a way that will result in reimbursement rates being cut even further and does not address patient access issues.
- If the proposed rule is finalized, it would make supplemental oxygen more difficult to access.
Here’s where you come in:
- Your voice is critical! Comments are due Friday, August 29. A lot of organizations that care deeply about this issue are submitting comments, but CMS also needs to hear directly for patients, caregivers, and providers about the real-world challenges.
- Share with your network of fellow oxygen warriors to help strengthen our collective voice.
Here are 2 documents:
- Template Comment Letter – This includes the technical details (docket number, policy asks) and space for your personal story. That’s the most powerful part: share who you are, your experiences with supplemental oxygen, the challenges you’ve faced, and what it would mean if access became even more limited.
- step-by-step instructions – a simple guide to submitting your comments online
If you’re not comfortable submitting the comments through the CMS website – you can instead email your comments to , and we’ll make sure your comments are filed under your name.
Thank you for raising your voice. Your story matters, and it could help protect supplemental oxygen access for people nationwide!
